The Irving Running Club is finally here!  

For Irvingites who have longed for a community running organization- your wait is over!  The Irving Running Club has officially formed to bring together area runners who share a passion for running and personal fitness.  Adrienne O'Reilly explains she was inspired to volunteer for the IRC because, "Upon moving here, I was surprised to see Irving didn't have its own running club. With numerous pretty parks and lots of runners in the area, I figured we should try to start our own and provide a place where runners in the area can train together and meet up, and where people can develop their passions for running or just get a good workout in."

The IRC aims to provide a place for runners whether they are training for an ultramarathon or a 5K, amateur athletes or beginners, young and old; who want to find others who share their interests and support from a local running community. By holding several community runs a week and events throughout the year, the IRC hopes to foster a larger interest in healthy living and promote overall fitness. 

Lazaro Alvarez, an avid runner/volunteer says, "Running offers a unique way to leave your daily grind while developing yourself mentally and physically.  The IRC is the perfect way to engage with fellow runners of all levels."  

The Irving Running Club's first timed race will be the Irving Las Colinas Marathon on April 27, 2013.  The event will host a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run.  The event will help support Our Children's House at Baylor-Irving.  Four additional timed events have been scheduled with more in the works.
